Would you open a restaurant, a retail store, buy a farm, start commercial fishing, or any myriad of businesses without knowledge of that industry? Could you become a broker, a banker, a counselor, a teacher, etc. without education? What makes a person believe they can become the CEO of ME, Inc. without education, knowledge, experience and even a changed mindset?

Many people make an emotional decision to jump into network marketing based on either a physical need or financial need. They’re promised results and success, even though history has proven that more than 90% of network marketers fail and less than 5% achieve true, walk away, residual income. The hype and lies that are spun to entice people, many we truly care about like friends and family, are amazing!

Network marketing by design requires that you take the time to plan your success. It means being clear about your vision and intentions, being ready with the training, tools, and systems that will attract leads and support a growing team and customer base, and is dependent on a commitment to both learn and lead.

Designing your success starts with asking yourself some basic questions.

What are my motives for starting a business? This question is multifaceted, in that you not only clarify your personal intentions, but you can begin to determine the direction you want to go in your business. Knowing your “why” is like a plumb line in wall papering. If your starting point is off, every strip will be duplicated and the room will need to be repapered. Launching your network marketing business with a clear “why” will give you a level place from which to plan the rest of your steps.

Am I interested in reaching a target market? That will help you decide on the product(s) or service(s) that you will choose to promote. Marketing to Baby Boomers might take you a completely different direction than marketing to stay at home moms. Marketing to a specific consumer group may also help you decide if you want to focus on one product line or company or be open to multiple income streams through affiliate marketing, information marketing, coaching, and representing more than one mlm.

Do I have a personal passion for a particular industry, products, or service? If you love to travel, you may decide to choose that industry, for both the benefits of getting discounted travel for yourself and creating income by sharing something you love and know about with others. Maybe you like to shop online, or you’re excited about helping those that struggle with weight or health issues. If you choose something you love doing, it is more likely you will achieve success and stay with it until you do. It creates a deeper core purpose in what you are doing.

Do I have the time and financial resources to launch with momentum and stay the course? Even though many mlm business owners promise you success on a $500 or less investment and 5-10 hours a week, I’m going to be honest and let you know that isn’t likely. The truth is that starting strong and growing your business with skill and planning will place you in the 10% that succeed in network marketing. A person isn’t going to start up a retail store and only open it for 10 hours a week. That would be business suicide. It’s the same in network marketing. If you don’t have the time or need education, training, and more money to launch with success, then wait to start business building and use your time and financial resources to get the tools and training you need to succeed when you are ready. If you want to join a company to use the products or services, and can afford the initial investment and monthly overhead before you start building your business, go ahead. What you do the first 90-100 days in business often sets the course for failure or success. The Law of Momentum is one of the secrets to creating a thriving mlm business. Momentum produces enthusiasm, energy, retention, teamwork, and profit. The lack of momentum produces frustration, complacency, discouragement, and results in people quitting because they’re not making money and frequently going even deeper into debt.

Am I willing to give my business a 1 year commitment? Even if you start out strong, network marketing is all about the Law of Multiplication. You and your team need to be given the support and time to develop the size of team that produces residual, full time income. In most pay plans that can take 6-12 months of attracting both customers and business partners.

There is nothing more satisfying than having a real vision, putting that vision into a plan, taking action on that plan and achieving the rewards of success. When you duplicate that throughout a team, the rewards are multiplied times 10. That is the joy of designing a profitable network marketing business. And that is attraction marketing in action!

Having achieved both success and failure in some of my mlm ventures, I can honestly say that with strategic planning, clear intentions, proper training and implementation of attraction based marketing principles, strong systems for attracting leads, business building and support, internet marketing guidance, and personal motivation, a person can create a stable, residual income in network marketing. This is truly Network Marketing by Design.

</rss:item><rss:item rdf:about="http://www.networkmarketingbydesign.com/mlm-marketing-strategies/2008/7/28/marketing-mlm-to-baby-boomers.html"><rss:title>Marketing MLM to Baby Boomers</rss:title><rss:link>http://www.networkmarketingbydesign.com/mlm-marketing-strategies/2008/7/28/marketing-mlm-to-baby-boomers.html</rss:link>

<dc:subject></dc:subject>

Renegade Baby Boomers are one of the key target markets for network marketers. Many are facing retirement, and with cost of living increases, social security less than secure, and the desire to enjoy life and be active longer, residual and supplemental income is both attractive and sometimes necessary for those in this 40+ age group. Others like to network market because of the social word-of-mouth element. They may not need money at all, but love to gather around common interests, meet in a social setting and share. Network marketing is just a natural thing they are doing in their everyday lives, and they might as well profit from a home based business.

There are 78 million Boomers in the US and they control more than 83% of consumer spending. However, their cautious and more traditional use of the internet makes it a bit more challenging to get them to respond to e-marketing. This is definitely a group that it pays to attract by making friends first. Romance the sale by connecting, listening, and building personal credibility. Boomers are big on customer service, so be sure to give above and beyond to build personal and product loyalty.

According to a recent Third World/JWTBoom study of 1800 Baby Boomers “People over age 40 participate heavily in word-of-mouth and value personal recommendations and expert opinions, but they have not yet embraced social networking or blogs despite being heavy users of other online services”.

Email is commonly used by this age group to stay in touch with friends and family and exchange pictures. Email campaigns would be a more successful online marketing strategy to influence the Boomer generation. They like trusted brands, and if you are introducing them to an unknown brand, they will be more likely to respond if you include content that is attributed to an expert, author, or someone with credibility in the subject matter you are promoting. They often don’t make a buying decision until they’ve had multiple exposures to either a product, company, or the website being marketed. However, once they try and like a product, 93% said they would be likely to share it with a friend.

Is it worth the effort to reach this middle-age group online? Most definitely! Boomer spending is projected to be over 4.6 trillion by 2015. The survey found 80% of Boomers have a broadband connection and expect 83% will be using the internet regularly by 2011, up from 75% in 2006.

This is the generation that created the World Wide Web and they are as willing to use it as the younger generations, but they take a bit longer to embrace some of the new technology. As fun and exciting as social networking, blogging, and video can be to the internetwork marketer, don’t forego the importance of staying in touch through personal emails and campaigns. Take the time to reach out and blend high touch with high tech for the most success.

Effective email marketing is a skill you will want to learn so you can reach this lucrative and diverse market of 40-plus consumers. Unfortunately, that has left a bad impression of mlm in many minds and reluctance to take the bait one more time.

Honestly, I felt the same way in 2002…nearly giving up ever joining another mlm business opportunity again. Even though I experienced a pretty high level of success, the residual income I’d been told was easy to achieve seemed to elude me. Just when I was about there, something would change and frustration took over one more time. Does that sound familiar?

Through it all, I decided I was finished with begging friends and family, neighbors and everyone who came within 3 feet of me, cold calling thousands of people and buying every system offered by my “upline” and “crossline” leadership. I’d spent thousands of dollars…and always more than I was making with the promise that the latest system would create a tenfold return on my investment. Know what? It didn’t!

That changed in 2004. I found a great new company that was solely internet based and started a serious search for the internet marketing education and tools that would provide success and duplication...that elusive dream of every network marketer. I saw the trends taking place and realized that network marketing was evolving into something new and different. Those remaining stuck in the “old school” mlm methods would eventually be left behind. So, I immersed myself in as many training calls as I could find and purchased proven courses that would provide the skills I’d need to find customers and team members who also wanted a successful home based business. I sought mentors who were not just internet gurus, but had actually built successful network marketing businesses online through their own experiences of success and failure.

The best of what I found came from two sources. The first was Mike Dillard, the creator of Magnetic Sponsoring, MLM Traffic Formula, and now Building on a Budget, all affordable tools that continue to provide incredible value and save me from making a lot of expensive mistakes in this new and ever changing arena of internet marketing. I also use Ann Sieg and the Renegade Network Marketing System where I’m learning how to integrate the new methods as I transition into an internet professional myself.

I find it easier to attract people than to chase them down or pay for leads. In fact, you can create cash flow while generating your own lead lists with both of these systems. What a wonderful opportunity to recover my training investments, create income while helping people be more successful using the internet to generate leads lists and then build relationships that convert to business partnerships with my primary company. I’m selling more products online and finding interested business prospects through my marketing efforts as I move higher on the search engines. I’m having fun again and working with people who are looking for what I offer. That is truly attraction based marketing!

The only challenge was that many of my new recruits needed additional training, which resulted in less productive time for me to spend building my team. I’m pleased to say I’ve found the perfect solution. It’s called Renegade University and, besides being the perfect place for a beginner to start, it is the ideal partner for those already using either the Magnetic Sponsoring System or the Renegade Network Marketer e-course or both. I’m introducing my team to a system that does the internet training for me at a level that everyone can achieve. Now everyone can use attraction marketing with success and learn skills that will carry over into every facet of their network marketing business…whether retailing, prospecting, or supporting their team.

I’m also finding that many people are reluctant to jump into internet marketing without that hand holding support to launch them into their first attempts at social marketing and Web 2.0 . It is overwhelming for the beginning internet user, but these are exactly the people who need to start seeing profit…otherwise they tend to give up the dream of financial freedom and extra income that drove their decision to start a home based business in the first place.

These, and all the other wonderful online tools available at little or no cost to help people achieve success, has produced a completely new opportunity to build a business on a budget, posture yourself as a professional, and provide a service that delivers results and uses attraction marketing to generate continuous leads. If you haven’t started, now is the perfect time!

</rss:item></rdf:RDF>
